HYDERABAD, April 30: Federal Minister for Housing and Town Planning Safwanullah has said that the government planned to build apartments for government employees and asked provinces to identify pieces of 100-acre land for the purpose in each district.

Speaking at the press club on Sunday, he said that the government employees would be able to get proprietary rights of the apartment on retirement.

He said that about six million houses were required for government employees.

At present, the federal government had only 27,000 residential units for 386,000 employees, he added.

He said that the government had put forward proposals for building houses for government employees which would now be implemented at the district level following 17th constitutional amendment.

The minister said that a proposal for allowing employees to have proprietary rights during their employment and deducting instalments from their salaries had been approved by the prime minister giving the go ahead to the construction of apartments in Islamabad for BPS-1 to BPS-16 employees.
