French President Emmanuel Macron says he has asked the Israeli prime minister to end strikes in Gaza and return to the ceasefire deal, Al Jazeera reports.

“I emphasized that humanitarian aid must resume immediately,” Macron wrote in a lengthy social media post.

He also said he urged Israel to respect the ceasefire in Lebanon.

“Regarding Lebanon, after my discussions with the Lebanese President on Friday and this conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, we have decided to work together,” Macron said.

“The monitoring mechanism must be strengthened to fully restore Lebanon’s sovereignty. This includes a complete withdrawal of Israel from Lebanese territory and support in order to restore the state’s monopoly on arms.”
