Wajid, Ayesha clinch crowns

LAHORE, April 29: National champion Wajid Ali won the men’s singles title while Ayesha Akram grabbed the women’s title, in the All-Pakistan Farooq ranking badminton tournament in Faisalabad on Saturday.

Wajid defeated second seed Zeeshan Omer in the final 21-18, 18-21, 23-21.

Zeeshan after 1-1, was leading 17-13 in the final set but Wajid staged a comeback matched the score 18-18, 19-19 and 21-21 before winning the crucial set.

Ayesha Akram outclassed Asma Butt in straight sets final to emerge as champion with the score being 21-18, 21-19.

Zeeshan with Zafar Tasnim defeated Waqas Ahmed and Rizwan Rana to win the doubles' title.

The winners completed the win with the score being 21-18, 21-17.
