KARACHI, April 29: Power supply to the city from Wapda was normalized by mid-day, Saturday, enabling the KESC to end loadshedding during night hours. The loadshedding was effected due to the short supply of up to 300mw from Wapda.

A KESC spokesman said that the power utility had been getting input from Wapda to ensure regular supply to its 1.9 million consumers.

He said the government's 1994 power policy, which allowed power generation in the private sector, capped the then public sector KESC’s plans for more power generating station. Until 2005, he said, Wapda had at times supplied up to 600mw whenever needed. However, due to some technical reasons not known to the KESC, the supply from Wapda had dropped. Besides, the frequency of supply also remained lower, which caused tripping of 150 feeders at a time.—APP
