Rockets launched from Lebanon signify a significant escalation, Zeina Khodr of Al Jazeera notes.
“For the first time in three months, rockets have been launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel. Yes, they were intercepted and there were no casualties. But this is a significant development and a serious escalation,” Khodr said.
“We understand there has been artillery shelling on several locations in southern Lebanon. Israeli warplanes are conducting intense flights over the south,” the reporter added.
“Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said that Metulla — the border town in northern Israel towards which the rockets were directed, is ‘the same’ as the Lebanese capital, Beirut,” they said.
“So is he hinting there will be a strike in Beirut? There has been no claim of responsibility, but many believe Israel is blaming Hezbollah, and many believe it would be the only actor capable of doing this from that area,” the reporter concluded.
