ISLAMABAD: Steps to wind up Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (Passco) and disposal of wheat stock it holds were discussed at a meeting presided over by Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain.

The meeting focused on the strategy for Passco and improving its efficiency and ensuring food security in the country.

The minister stressed the need for a well-structured approach to managing wheat reserves and the current financial matters of Passco for sustainable operations.

The corporation is at present undergoing rightsizing, leading to its gradual shutdown as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wants to close departments that are no longer beneficial and are a burden on the national economy.

The meeting discussed the winding-up process of Passco, its current wheat stocks and budgetary matters.

The corporation, which started operations in 1974, manages a stock of wheat and other food items to ensure food security.
