Dance Day celebrated

ISLAMABAD, April 28: The International Dance Day was celebrated for the first time in Pakistan on Friday at the Islamabad Club auditorium here.

Ms Lucia Carro, a member of the Unesco International Dance Day Committee, made the event possible in collaboration with the Alliance Francaise, the Capital Development Authority and the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.

Amateurs from the diplomatic corps also performed on the occasion. Fifteen dances were presented, including the Scottish High Land and Latin dances.

Ms Lucia, from Indu Mitha’s muzamin shauq group, presented Bharat Natyam dance.

Folk and classical dances were performed by the National Performing Arts Group (NPAG) and choreographed by Shima Kirmani.

Dancer Nighat Chaudhry charmed the audience with her Kathak dance. Huma from the NPAG led the folk dance presentation of gypsy dances from Tharparkar.

Alliance Francaise Director Lagorce Xavier thanked the guests for backing the celebration of the international dance through their participation.—JI
