LAKKI MARWAT/PESHAWAR: At least two policemen embraced martyrdom fending off terrorists who stormed a police station in Karak and a police post in Peshawar, whereas an attack targeting a police station in Bajaur was repulsed without any loss of life.

According to a police official, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on the Yaqoob Khan Shaheed police station and a gas facility in Karak to take over the installations.

“They used light and heavy weapons…but the security personnel deployed there responded effectively,” he said, adding that the policemen engaged the assailants and thwarted their plan to occupy the police station. “An effective response by the police forced the attackers to flee the place,” he said, adding that ASI Islam Noor fought bravely and laid down his life in the line of duty.

The official said that a similar attack was launched on a service meter system of the gas facility in Esak Khumari area of the Terri police station.

“A security guard (a former FC soldier) was martyred in the attack, while another received injuries,” he maintained. “During the exchange of fire, a terrorist was neutralised,” he claimed.

Peshawar attack

In Peshawar, police constable Nazar Ali was martyred in a militant attack on the Pajgai police post, police said.

Soon after the attack, fresh contingents of the police reached the spot, and the attack was repulsed.

A search operation was launched in the area, said the statement.

Later, the funeral of the martyred cop was held at the Peshawar police headquarters.

Separately, the Bajaur police repulsed an attack on its post by unknown assailants on Saturday night, officials said on Sunday. They said that a group of attackers targeted a police post in Darbano near Nawagai with automatic weapons on Saturday at 11pm.

The personnel promptly responded, which forced the attackers to flee.
