SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: A curfew was imposed in Upper and Lower South Waziristan districts on Sunday in a bid to ensure public safety and respond to escalating security threats.

The deputy commissioners of both the districts have issued official notifications declaring imposition of curfews for an indefinite period, which would take effect from Monday (today).

The curfew, announced to last from 6am to 6pm daily, will include closure of several vital routes in both the districts.

The affected roads included Zalai to New Cadet College, Wana Road and Tanai to Sarvekai-Jandola Road. These roads will be closed for all types of traffic, the notification said, adding unlike other roads the Wana-Gomal Zam Road would remain opened for the movement of travellers.

Ahmad Wam-Kotkai Road will be closed entirely for travel, it said. BB Raghzai-Jandola Road will also remain closed, the notification added.

Authorities have advised all travellers to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternate routes to avoid any disruptions to their travel.

The decision to impose the curfew and close the roads has been made in light of the prevailing security situation, with the intention of maintaining peace and order in the area.

The district administrations have called for cooperation of the public and emphasised the importance of complying with the curfew and road closure orders. They also assured that these steps were being taken to protect the lives of people and maintain stability in the region.
