SUKKUR: Shahid Mahar Shamsi, the owner and editor-in-chief of Daily Kaleem and younger brother of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors President Javed Mahar Shamsi, passed away on Saturday.

Family sources said Mr Shahid suffered heart attack which proved to be fatal. The funeral prayer would take place after Fajr at Makki Masjid near Qasim Park in Sukkur, on Sunday, they added.

Kaleem was brought out as a weekly from Sukkur in 1948 by Mahar Ilahi Shamsi, father of Shahid Shamsi. Later, it was changed to daily. The deceased has left behind a widow, three sons and two daughters.
