TAXILA: A murder convict was sentenced to life imprisonment on Friday for killing his daughter-in-law over a domestic dispute in the limits of Hassanabdal police station.

The judge also imposed a fine amounting to Rs500,000 as damages.

According to the FIR registered under sections 302 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at Hassanabdal police station, the accused, Waris Khan, gunned down his daughter-in-law Najma Khanam, over a domestic dispute in the village Kanwan in Bhallar Joggi union councilon August 9, 2023 and fled away.

The suspect was later arrested and he confessed to having murdered the woman. During the proceedings, the prosecution contended that substantial evidence was available on record, which established involvement of Waris Khan in murdering Najma. Subsequently session judge Attock Mohammad Zafar Iqbal sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine on him.

The court pronounced that the convict would undergo six months imprisonment if he failed to pay the death compensation to the deceased’s family.

Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested who allegedly tortured and later shot to death their colleague at the Pathargarh stone crushing plant in the limits of the Hassanabdal police station.

Umer Shahbaz reported to the police that his brother, who was working at the stone crusher plant, was allegedly killed by Hasnain along with Jan Iqbal and Faisal Islam, after an exchange of hot words over collection of money from truckers.

Police nabbed the nominated accused and launched further investigation.

Separately, a married woman was abducted by unknown persons in the limits of Taxila police station on Friday, police sources said.

According to sources, woman’s husband reported to police that his wife was going for some work when she was abducted.

Police registered an abduction case and launched a hunt for the recovery of the woman.
