NAWABSHAH: Shaheed Benazirabad circle of the Federal Investigation Agency has registered an FIR against DSP and SHO of Sakrand police station, an inspector, a sub-inspector, an ASI, a writing head constable and others on charges of being involved in the custodial death of a Zardari clansman.

The FIR was lodged on the orders of Sakrand judicial magistrate under Sections 302, 337, 220, 504, 506/2, 148, 149, 109 of PPC read with 8 & 9 of Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2022, against Sakrand SHO Mohammed Mithal Khakrani, DSP Yar Mohammad Phulpoto, Inspector Shahid Malik, Sub-Inspector Shabbir Hussain Gopang, WHC Mohammad Arif, ASI Mohsin Jiskani and others following the death of Mohammad Nawaz Zardari in police custody at Sakrand police station a couple of weeks ago allegedly from severe torture.

SHO, WHC and ASI were arrested on the basis of an FIR lodged by the victim’s brother Asad Nawaz Zardari while the DSP obtained interim bail from court.

Shaheed Benazirabad SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio was also transferred and asked to report to CPO after the custodial death.

The initial post mortem report of the victim showed signs of a large number of bruises on the body.

Police were, however, waiting for the final chemical examination reports to ascertain the actual cause of death and determine role of other suspects, said police officials.
