MIANWALI, April 26: The district council on Wednesday declared appointments of hundreds of educators as null and void who were recently appointed by a committee of education department.

The department, however, earned thousands of rupees by charging candidates in the name of fee and now the selected candidates are being deprived of the jobs.

Treasury members Haji Muhammad Aslam, Syed Ahmad Shah and Munir Saeed pointed out irregularities in the recruitment process and the house cancelled the appointments.

District nazim Obaidullah Shadikhel said new recruitments would be made purely on merit.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: The district council, in a special meeting held on Wednesday, approved 86 development schemes worth Rs109.84 million presented by Citizens Community Boards (CCBs).

The CCBs will provide their share of Rs24.51 million and the district government will provide Rs87.28 million. The schemes include 78 projects worth Rs102.35 million for irrigation in various parts of the district.

Besides eight schemes of education, information technology and health of worth Rs6.07 million were also approved.

It is interesting to note that in its first meeting the newly elected council rejected 35 scheme duly approved by the outgoing district government for “overestimation.” Some of the affected parties moved the Lahore High Court for their redressal and matter is still pending.
