LAHORE, April 25: The PPP has announced a schedule for the membership drive across the country which will be completed in three months.
On the completion of the drive, the process of elections at various tiers would be started, party’s chief election commissioner Sajjad Bukhari said at a news conference here on Tuesday.
Secretary-general Jehangir Badr, provincial president Qasim Zia, Lahore president Azizur Rehman Chan and other party leaders like Beelum Hasnain, Abdul Qadir Shaheen, Shakeela Rashid, Zakariya Butt and Mian Ayub were also present.
Mr Bukhari said the membership campaign in Lahore would be inaugurated on May 1, Karachi May 8, Peshawar May 15, Quetta May 22 and Islamabad May 29.
He said special ceremonies would be organised in this respect.
A new tier of councillor is being introduced for the first time. On every 25 members, there will be a councillor.
He explained the way the electoral process would be completed.
When asked if election for the office of the chairperson would also be held, Mr Bukhari said it was a premature question. However, he reminded the questioner that Ms Bhutto had been elected life chairperson of the party.
