ISLAMABAD, April 25: Minister-designate for Railways Shaikh Rashid Ahmed on Tuesday expressed determination to improve the Railways and said he would make it the safest mode of public communication.

Addressing a press conference, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said efforts would be made to achieve the objective.

“I will prove that I can run the railways ministry as efficiently as the ministry of information,” he said.

He was accompanied by Minister of State Anisazeb Tahirkheli.

Shaikh Rashid said: “I have been entrusted to run and improve the Pakistan Railways. I represent the grassroots, so I know how to alleviate people’s grievances of about the Railways.”

He said efforts would be made to upgrade tracks, bridges and other rail infrastructure.

Shaikh Rashid announced 80 per cent concession in railway fare for journalists and said that it would be available on all domestic routes.

Referring to his efforts to promote television, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said when he joined the PTV had only two channels, adding that PTV was now running eight channels.— APP
