ISLAMABAD: The National Commission on the Status of Women on Tuesday celebrated a major milestone with the approval of the Hindu marriage registration rules 2024 by the Punjab cabinet.

A statement issued here said that this landmark decision paved the way for the Hindu community in Pakistan to officially register marriages and divorces, ensuring their legal rights to property, inheritance, and recourse.

Chairperson of NCSW, Ume Laila Azhar, hailed the approval as a crucial step towards fostering a more inclusive and secure Punjab and Pakistan. She emphasised that the decision would enable vulnerable groups and minorities to live with dignity while gaining access to essential protections and services.

The NCSW said it had long been at the forefront of advocating for women’s rights and empowerment in Pakistan.

The approval of these rules stands as a testament to the Commission’s persistent efforts and its collaboration with the Punjab government and relevant departments.

This development was expected to significantly benefit Hindu women and their families, ensuring their rights were safeguarded and their voices are recognized in the legal system.
