ABBOTTABAD, April 25: At least 50 members of Mansehra District Council have demanded removal of the toll plaza, set up by the National Highway Authority in Mansehra for at least five years.

The demand was made in a meeting of the councillors held in Mansehra under the chairmanship of district Nazim Sardar Mohammad Yousuf.

The council members said that the government was being asked for special relief measures for the earthquake-affected areas, including Mansehra district, but the NHA had resumed collection of toll tax in Mansehra from April 15, which had been suspended after last year’s quake.

They also called upon the authorities to monitor the performance of them working in the quake-hit areas, saying that most of the NGOs were now doing nothing and funds were being wasted.

Meanwhile, transporters from Abbottabad, Mansehra, Batagram and Kohistan districts have given the administration a deadline of April 30 for removing the toll plaza.

Local traders’ organizations have announced support for the transporters demand.
