QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday pledged the provincial government’s full support for the Safa Quetta project and announced its expansion across the district.

The chief minister made the announcement while inaugurating phases 2, 3 and 4 of the project at a ceremony to improve sanitation and collection of solid waste in the provincial capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bugti said it was the collective responsibility of every citizen to maintain cleanliness and beauty of Quetta, referring to the city as “our shared home”.

He expressed satisfaction that the project is moving forward successfully and praised efforts of Safa Quetta teams which wore blue uniforms and are working under difficult conditions to maintain cleanliness in the provincial capital. He lauded their hard work and dedication, attributing much of the success of the project to their commitment.

Bugti inaugurates new phases of the scheme

Mr Bugti praised efforts of the Quetta commissioner, who is also QMC administrator, for the Safa Quetta project management, highlighting the challenges the project faces, especially from those resisting it.

Mr Bugti said the provincial government will continue its support to the project and made it clear that no obstacle to the initiative would be tolerated.

He also thanked the Metropolitan Union for contributing to the city’s cleanliness.

The chief minister appealed to the people to actively participate in keeping their neighbourhoods and markets clean, emphasising that Quetta’s cleanliness is the shared responsibility of all the people living in the city.

He also urged traders to ensure cleanliness in the markets of the city to make Quetta one of the country’s cleanest cities.

He said the performance of the Safa Quetta project teams would be closely monitored and third-party audits would be conducted for this purpose.

In addition to the cleanliness, the chief minister said that more development projects would soon be launched in Quetta, with particular focus on upgrading the airport road to enhance the city’s beauty.
