KARACHI, April 24: The Pakistan Association of Private Medical Institutions on Monday welcomed the formation of high-powered committee constituted by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to examine draft legislation to resolve differences among various stake holders and finalise proposed amendments in the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council Act 1973.

The association expressed hope that the committee would review and finalise the draft expeditiously. It demanded institution of national licensing examination for all fresh medical graduates.

It urged the prime minister to include one nominee of the association so that all stake holders were included, as private institutes and government institutes were equal in numbers.

The association also urged that regulation of only undergraduate medical education was meaningless without regulation of postgraduate medical education.

The committee must also review postgraduate education done by universities and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan to create uniformity in producing qualified doctors.—PPI
