Polo: Ahmad on goal spree

LAHORE, April 23: Five goals by Ahmad Ali Tiwana, including a hat trick, helped WKF win the Novices Cup polo tournament beating Candy Land Yellow 7-5 in a thrilling final on Sunday.

Ahmed drew first blood, scoring a field goal while Azam Hayat Noon struck a goal for the losers, as both the teams were levelled 1-1 in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, both the teams added one goal each as they were again equalled 2-2. Ahmed blasted home with second goal, converting a 30-yard penalty hit. Asif Tiwana slammed a goal for the losers.

Both the teams failed to take the lead in the third chukker, too as scoring two goals apiece they were levelling at 4-4.

Ahmed added two more goals while Jawad Jamil Malik and Asif found the target one time each for the losers.

In the fourth chukker, Jawad scored his second for Candy Land before Ahmed scored three goals in a row to seal the fate of the final.

Six-goal Ashfaq helped Diamond Paints beat Dew Drops 7-4 to claim third place.

Mir Shoaib Ahmad added the remaining one goal for the losers, Taimur Malik (2), Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana (1) and Shehzad Aziz (1) were the scorers.
