WANA, April 23: Army men on Sunday opened fire on guards of South Waziristan Agency Political Agent Capt (retd) Munir Azam when they tried to remove a barrier at Enzari check-post.

Mr Azam was going from Wana to Shakai to attend a tribal jirga on the law and order situation. General Officer Commanding of Kohat Maj-Gen Gul Mohammad and other high-ranking officials were also scheduled to attend the jirga.

Officials said that the convoy was stopped by army personnel at the Enzari check-post, 20 kilometres North of Wana. They told Mr Azam that they would have to ask their commandant before removing the barrier.

When the army men went away, the guards the political agent, on his direction, removed the barrier, upon which the army men opened fire on them.
