QA‘Erra to play advisory role’

Published April 24, 2006

MUZAFFARABAD, April 23: Reconstruction work in quake-hit areas will be the undertaken by the Azad Kashmir and the NWFP governments, says Chairman of the Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (Erra) Altaf Saleem.

He was talking to journalists after a visit to a reconstruction centre in Muzaffarabad on Sunday.

He said that Erra would work as an advisory and monitoring agency.

A delegation of the Chinese Foundation of Trade and Commerce and Industry led by China’s trade minister was present on the occasion.

Mr Saleem said it was a misperception that a new survey would delay reconstruction work.

He said China would also collaborate with Pakistan in the reconstruction work, adding that Chinese experts were reviewing construction of earthquake-proof houses. — Online
