SHIKARPUR, April 23: Passengers of a wagon were deprived of their valuables and the driver was shot dead by a group of bandits near Lakhi Ghulam Shah, late on Saturday night.

A group of 10 bandits intercepted the wagon near Qasim Village on Chak-Sukkur road in the jurisdiction of Chak police, looted cash, jewellery, mobile phones and other valuables from the passengers.

The wagon driver, Ghulam Qadir Phulpoto, a resident of Khairpur, was gunned down by the bandits when he resisted them.

Soon after the incident, the passengers of the wagon and drivers of other coaches and wagons staged a demonstration near the place of incident and blocked the road.

The enraged protesters burnt tyres on the road and raised slogans against the police. On the assurance of the District Police Officer of Shikarpur, Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh, the road was cleared for vehicular traffic after two hours.

KIDNAPPED: Five unidentified armed men kidnapped one Asadullah Qazi, a resident of Qazi Mohalla Shikarpur, near the railway crossing Chotta Begari Canal on Sukkur-Shikarpur road on Sunday. The unidentified armed men intercepted the car in which Asadullah Qazi was travelling along with his driver.

The kidnappers abandoned the car and the driver and took away Qazi Asad.
