TAXILA: The Punjab government on Sunday renamed the 50-bed Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) in Jand town of Attock district after a martyred army officer.

According to the notification issued by the senior planning officer of the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, the health facility has been named after Captain Uzair Mehmood. The notification states that “consequent upon the approval of the competent authority, THQ hospital Jand, Attock is hereby renamed as Shaheed Uzair Mehmood THQ hospital”.

Captain Uzair Mehmood Malik, 24, hailed from village Bhandar Tali in tehsil Jand. While leading his troops from the front, he fought bravely and eliminated four terrorists in the Bagh area of Tirah valley on August 9. The officer sustained injuries during intense exchange of fire and was under treatment at CMH Peshawar, where he succumbed to his injuries and embraced martyrdom on August 11, 2024.

The martyred officer was later laid to rest in his native town. In recognition of his supreme sacrifice, the Punjab government, as a tribute, renamed the health facility after him.
