UN Secretary General Antonion Guterres has said the establishment of a “sovereign Palestinian state” was the only sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israel issue, amid US President Donald Trump’s plan to remove Palestinians from Gaza.

“A viable, sovereign Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security with Israel is the only sustainable solution,” the UN chief stated on X.

The remarks also follow Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s comment on a “Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia”, which Arab countries have strongly condemned.

Guterres also reiterated his call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, saying: “We cannot back to more death and destruction.”
