BAJAUR: Residents of Lowi Mamond tehsil here on Sunday expressed dismay over the slow pace of work on the Umary-Laghari Road.

Talking to reporters, a group of elders and youths from various areas led by Malik Wasid Ali, Malik Naimat Khan, Malik Suliman Khan and Said Wali Khan said that renovation of the six-kilometre road was going too slow.

They pointed out that work on the road, which connects the tehsil with rest of the district, was inaugurated by PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman on November 21 last year.

However, they said so far only one kilometre stretch of the road could be completed, causing inconvenience to the residents.

They noted that the road had been closed for vehicular movement in Umary area for last two weeks, forcing residents to use a far-flung route to reach their destinations.

They asked the authorities concerned to keep one side of the road open for traffic.

The elders also accused MPA Hamidur Rehman of not taking interest in speedy completion of the road.

“We have brought the issue into the notice of the MPA many times, but he has not taken any action,” they alleged.

They asked the lawmaker and the authorities concerned to ensure early completion of the project. They also threatened agitation if pace of work was not expedited. Meanwhile, a source close to MPA told Dawn that work on the project would be accelerated from Tuesday.
