ISLAMABAD: While the federal government has been trying to invite foreign investors to Pakistan, the KPMG consulting firm has offered its services to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to make its projects financially feasible and sustainable.

The offer was made to CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa by a KPMG team at a meeting held at the CDA headquarters.

The meeting was attended by CDA Board members and other senior officers. The firm’s name is derived from the initial alphabets of the names of some of its principal founding members - Klynveld, Peat, Marwick, Goerdeler.

It may be noted that the government has been trying to bring foreign investments through the platform of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and recently a US-based investor has announced to invest in the real estate sector in the country. SIFC, a high-level oversight committee, has been established in order to facilitate, fast-track and protect foreign investments.

Company would share best business models and financial plans for projects in capital, says CDA chairman

During the meeting, discussions were held regarding the best financial plan for various CDA projects and several proposals were considered aimed at financial sustainability and viability.

The CDA chairman stated that he aimed to make the projects most suitable for investment for the development and growth of Islamabad. The meeting also discussed the possibility of arranging conferences and seminars for the investors.

The CDA chairman mentioned that the civic agency intended to make the projects financially sustainable and use the revenue generated from them for the welfare of the city. He said KPMG could provide its best consultancy and technical assistance in that regard.

He emphasised that KPMG would share the best business models and financial plan for these projects. He added that CDA would benefit from KPMG’s consultancy, technical expertise, and experience. The meeting also reaffirmed the commitment to promote mutual cooperation for the development of Islamabad city.

Meanwhile, Mr Randhawa met Surveyor General of Pakistan Major General Rafiqur Rehman at the CDA headquarters. Both the sides agreed to enhance mutual cooperation besides obtaining 3D maps and imageries for Islamabad.

The CDA chairman said he aimed to fully utilise the technical capabilities of the Surveyor General of Pakistan. He emphasised that 3D images would assist the CDA in better urban planning and preparation of layout plans and could also be used to address the issues of the city. He said 3D maps and images would help in the timely identification of land encroachments.

The two sides agreed to form technical teams from both organisations and increase cooperation.

Mr Randhawa mentioned that they would benefit greatly from the technical expertise, capabilities and experience of the Surveyor General of Pakistan.
