LAKKI MARWAT: A police constable was martyred when unknown motorcyclists opened fire on him here on Thursday.

A police official said that the terror attack took place on Lawangkhel Road in the limits of Ghaznikhel police station.

He said unknown assailants targeted constable Idrees when he was going to his village Goraka Dilasa Shah from the police lines.

The policeman received critical bullet injuries and died on the spot, he maintained.

He said the body was moved to the District Headquarters Hospital, while a contingent of police reached the area and launched a search for the attackers.

Meanwhile, the police averted a tragedy by defusing a homemade bomb in Serai Gambila area of Lakki Marwat on Thursday.

A police official said that unknown miscreants had planted an explosive device beneath a small bridge on a rural road near Wanda Shahmadu apparently to target a police patrol party of the Serai Gambila police station.

He said local police officials rushed to the place when they learnt that some suspected material was lying under the bridge.

The area was cordoned off and experts of the bomb disposal squad defused the explosive device, he added.
