KARACHI: The first Indonesian President and Mrs Soekarno were warmly received by the Governor-General of Pakistan, Khwaja Nazimuddin, the Prime Minister, Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, Cabinet Ministers and the members of the diplomatic corps, besides high Govern­ment officials and citizens, when they landed at the Karachi airport at 2-30 p.m. on Sunday [Jan 29]. The Governor-General … was the first to greet His Excellency Dr Abdur Rahim Soekarno and Mrs Soekarno as they stepped out of the Garuda Airways Dakota flying the President’s flag of 70 million free people of Indonesia, and to shake hands with him.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister … in his usual cordial way shook hands with … Dr Soekarno and Begum Liaquat Ali Khan greeted Mrs Soekarno. The Governor-General and the Prime Minister … were introduced to Dr Soekarno by the Indonesian Charge d’Affaires, Mr Idham.

Dressed in military uniform, the Indonesian President took the salute from a detachment of the Baluch Regiment lined up on the runway. The two flags — the red and white ‘Dwiwarna’ and Pakistan’s crescent and star — were flown alongside on the Control Tower of the airport.
