Shamyl’s maiden double ton gives PTV command

KARACHI: Shamyl Hussain of Pakistan Television (PTV) smashed his maiden first-class double century to help his team take a massive 367-run first-innings lead against Eshaal Associates on the second day of their fourth-round match of the President’s Trophy Grade-I event here at the NBP Sports Complex on Monday.

Shamyl cracked 229 off 274 balls with the help of 29 fours and four sixes and also shared a 163-run partnership with Mohammad Shahzad (104 off 126) for the seventh wicket. Shahzad, batting at No.8, made his second consecutive and fourth first-class century with the aid of 12 boundaries and four sixes.

PTV declared their first innings at a mammoth 531-9 off 114 overs. In response, Eshaal Associates were struggling at 46-2 when play ended for the day.

Khan Research Laboratories’ opener Waqar Ahmed backed up his double century in the previous round with a 122-run knock laced with 17 fours against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) at the SBP Sports Complex.

KRL in their first innings finished the day at 266-7, still trailing by 68 runs. Earlier, SNGPL had resumed their first innings from overnight score of 302-8 and added 32 more runs to their total before getting bowled out.

SNGPL’s Saifullah Bangash (111 not out) registered his third first-class century during which he struck 16 fours.

Skipper Umar Amin hit his 35th first-class century to help the State Bank of Pakistan take a 54-run first-innings lead against Wapda at the KCCA Stadium.

After starting the day at 23-2, the SBP reached 304-7 when stumps were drawn.

Left-handed Umar faced 241 balls for his 136 while hitting 15 fours and two sixes. Wapda had totalled 250 in their first innings.

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited reached 225-3 after they began their second innings against Ghani Glass at the UBL Sports Complex.

OGDCL are leading by 160 runs as Sameer Saqib (82 not out) and Adil Amin (42 not out) are at the crease. Ghani Glass in their first innings had made 145.
