Ashfaq slams match-winner

LAHORE, April 20: A last-gasp goal by Ashfaq helped Diamond Paints carve out 5-4 1/2 win against Police in the Novices Cup polo on Thursday.

Ashfaq gave a flying start (3- 1 1/2) by completing his hat trick by the end of the first two chukkers.

The losers, who had 1 1/2 goal handicap scored first through Waseem Sial in the third chukker to reduce the margin 3- 2 1/2.

But Ashraf banged home a goal for the winners in the dying minute to again increase the margin (4-2 1/2).

Police staged a comeback in the fourth chukker, scoring back-to-back goals through Mujahid Omar Khan and Waseem to take 4 1/2- 4 lead, before Ashfaq pumped in his fourth to settle the issue.

Ahmed Ali Tiwana helped WKF beat Candy Land Blues 6-4. Junaid Ahmed added two goals.

For the losers, Atif Tiwana scored three while Farid Noon one goal.
