KARACHI: A couple was shot dead in Manghopir while a schoolteacher was gunned down in North Karachi in separate “honour-related” incidents in the city here on Friday, police said.
West-SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said Muhammad Akhtar, 29, and Gulsana Hussain, 45, were shot and killed near Wangi Goth in Manghopir. During the initial probe, it transpired that they were targeted by unknown suspects over some personal enmity.
Manghopir SHO Imran Ahmed Khan told Dawn that the man hailed from Sargodha while the woman belonged to Naushahro Feroze. They were on their way somewhere on foot when unidentified armed suspects opened indiscriminate fire on them. The double murder appeared to be related to honour-killing, the SHO added.
Investigators had collected around 15 spent bullet casings from the crime scene. The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.
In another incident, a schoolteacher was shot dead in North Karachi’s New Rasheedabad area.
Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said the victim, 35-year-old Khan Mayel, was killed by unknown suspects near Iqra Islamic School where he used to teach. He had arrived there on his motorcycle on Friday morning but some armed pillion riders emerged there and targeted him before fleeing.
Khawaja Ajmer Nagri SHO Sarfraz Commando told Dawn that the killing was related to the victim’s free-will marriage in his native town in Waziristan. The couple had got married there and were living at some undisclosed place here in the city.
