QUETTA: Six terrorists were killed by security forces during an attempt to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan in the Sambaza area of Zhob District, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

In a statement, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the movement of a group of terrorists, who were trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was picked up by the security forces.

The troops opened fire and engaged the terrorists, successfully foiling their attempt to infiltrate.

A large cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered from the possession of those killed, ISPR added.

The statement urged the Afghan government to “fulfil its obligations” and stop the use of its soil by terrorists to launch attacks against Pakistan.

This was the second attempt by terrorists to cross the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Sambaza border area in less than a week.

Earlier on Sunday, security forces killed five terrorists who were attempting to infiltrate Pakistan from Afghanistan.

In the same area, the forces killed an Afghan national involved in terrorist activity in Pakistan, ISPR said.

Muhammad Khan Ahmedkhel was the son of Haji Qasim Dawran Khan, a resident of Wazekhwa district of Afghanistan’s Paktika province.

He was killed in an intelligence-based operation in Sambaza, Zhob, on Jan 11 when security forces conducted a raid on the reported presence of terrorists in the area.

The statement added that Ahmedkhel’s body was handed over to Afghan officials on Monday after necessary procedural formalities.

“Such incidents are irrefutable evidence of the involvement of Afghan nationals in terrorist activities in Pakistan,” ISPR added.
