ISLAMABAD, April 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf conferred Hilal-i-Pakistan award on Prince Waleed Bin Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud in recognition of his “deep friendship and all-round support to Pakistan and his commitment to the causes of the Muslim Ummah” at a ceremony held here on Wednesday.

Prince Waleed made sincere efforts for spreading the understanding and promoting harmony between different faiths. His commitment to the cause of education is widely acknowledged. He has set up charitable institutions throughout the Muslim world.

Prince Waleed has made tremendous contribution in promoting Pakistan-Saudi friendship.

When the earthquake hit Pakistan in October last causing widespread devastation and loss of life, Prince Waleed flew to Pakistan to express his solidarity and assist in alleviating the sufferings of the people.

Earlier, Prince Waleed called on President Musharraf. During the call on the president appreciated the humanitarian services of Prince Waleed in bringing hope and relief to the distressed people in the earthquake-hit areas.

Prince Waleed thanked the people and government of Pakistan for conferring on him the prestigious award of Hilal-i-Pakistan.

MLITARY AWARDS: President Gen Pervez Musharraf conferred military awards on the armed forces officers at a special investiture ceremony held here on Wednesday.

The president conferred the award of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) on 33 officers of the armed forces.

The names of the recipients of Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) are Rear Admiral Shahid Farooq, Rear Admiral Mohammad Mushtaq, Rear Admiral Syed Afzal, Rear Admiral Ahsanul Haq Chaudhri, Maj-Gen Mohammad Asaad, Maj-Gen Mir Haider Ali Khan, Maj-Gen Sikandar Afzal, Maj-Gen Ijaz Ahmad Bakshi, Maj-Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne, Maj-Gen Mohammad Waheed Akhtar Malik, Maj-Gen Mohammad Ashraf Saleem, Maj-Gen Shahid Niaz, Maj-Gen Mohammad Yousaf, Maj-Gen S. Absar Hussain, Maj-Gen Javed Zia, Maj-Gen Mohammad Jawed, Maj-Gen Ghulam Haider, Maj-Gen Shujaat Zamir Dar, Maj-Gen Mohammad Tariq Masood, Maj-Gen Mohsin Kamal, Maj-Gen Mohammad Asghar, Maj-Gen Jamil Haider, Maj-Gen Hussain Mehdi, Maj-Gen Mohammad Saleem, Maj-Gen Nadeem Taj, Maj-Gen Mohammad Amin Wiqar, Maj-Gen Mohammad Rehan Burney, Maj-Gen Farrukh Seir and Maj-Gen Shafique Ahmed Kayani, Air Vice Marshal Iftikhar Ahmad Gul, Air Vice Marshal Ayaz Mahmood, Air Vice Marshal Maqbool Ali Shah, Air Vice Marshal Shahzad Aslam Chaudhry.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, National Assembly speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain, federal ministers, senior civil and military officers and the families of the recipients awardees.—APP
