LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), April 19: Only four teachers out of 19 were on duty at the Government High School in Kharghali during a surprise visit by the Landi Kotal political tehsildar and local councillors on Wednesday.

The visit was undertaken after students and their parents lodged a complaint with the local administration against the abstaining teachers and dilapidated condition of the school building.

The raiding party thoroughly checked teachers’ attendance register and found that at least eight teachers were not attending to their duties for the last two months.

The students also complained that there was no electricity in their classrooms and the school transformer was removed long ago for repair but was never installed back.

The raiding party also found cracks in a portion of the school building which were developed during Oct 8 earthquake last year but were never repaired.

The students said that five computers were stolen from the school a month ago and were yet to be recovered.
