
KARACHI: Fast bowler Mohammad Ismail of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) claimed five wickets to help his team outclass Pakistan Television (PTV) by an innings and 106 runs in their President’s Trophy Grade-I second-round match at the SBP Sports Complex in Karachi on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, PTV had resumed their second innings at 52-0 with a 269-run deficit. Apart from Shamyl Hussain (49), no other PTV batter offered resistance as they slipped to 137-5 before getting dismissed for 215.
Ismail, who had excellent match figures of 9-111, was backed up by Niaz Khan and Test pacer Mohammad Abbas who shared the remaining five wickets between them.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) made a brilliant comeback to beat the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) by 130 runs at the NBP Sports Complex.
HEC bowler Mohammad Azab starred with nine for 72 in the game to sink KRL.
At the start of day three, the HEC, who had conceded a 46-run lead in the first innings, could only add 31 runs to their overnight total of 208-5 before they were dismissed for 239, setting a 194-run target for KRL. Obaid Shahid top-scored with 72. KRL’s Arshadullah matched his first innings figures of 5-31 with 5-65 in the second innings.
Chasing a modest-looking 194-run target, the KRL were bundled out for 63 in 21.5 overs thanks to Azab (4-13), Waseem Akram Jr (3-25) and Maaz Khurram (2-21).
Ghani Glass romped to a 229-run win over Eshaal Associates at the HPC Oval Academy Ground.
Earlier in the day, Ghani Glass were dismissed for 242 in their second innings with half-centuries from Sharjeel Khan (53) and Mohammad Rameez Jr (50).
Eshaal Associates, chasing 329 for victory, collapsed for 99 in 24.5 overs with fast bowler Ubaid Shah taking 4-44.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) completed a facile seven-wicket victory over the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) at the UBL Sports Complex.
Beginning the day at 91-5, OGDCL could only post 178 in 60.4 overs, setting a target of 178 for SNGPL. Qasim Akram’s brisk unbeaten half-century (58 not out off 37 balls) and solid contributions from opener Abid Ali (49) and Saad Khan (47) steered SNGPL to victory in 44.4 overs.
