Notice to DO for poor sanitation

Published April 20, 2006

LAHORE, April 19: Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood on Wednesday issued show-cause notice to DO (Solid Waste Management) Rafiq Jatoi on complaints of unsatisfactory sanitary conditions in the city and recommended departmental action against him for dereliction of duty.

He also directed the DO to inspect the thickly populated areas of the city at 6am and 5pm daily and submit detailed reports about sanitation conditions there and action taken against the officials found absent from duty.

Issuing the show-cause notice, the nazim said the City District Government Lahore had provided the latest machinery to the SWM at a cost of Rs170 million in the recent past for an improvement in standard of sanitation service. The complaints against the sanitation staff had increased instead proving inefficiency and incompetence of the field supervisory staff.

He said he had paid maximum attention to the improvement of sanitation conditions in the city during the past four years but union council nazims and people continued to complain about the lethargy of the sanitation staff. The CDGL would now ensure redressal of grievances of the public and not spare the officials bringing bad name to it.
