PESHAWAR, April 18: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) will take action against its MPAs who violated the party discipline in the Senate elections.

Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) spokesman Hakim Abdul Waheed, who is also president of the JI Peshawar district, said that lawmakers who did not vote for the MMA candidates had been identified and disciplinary action would be taken against them.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, he said that the JI’s provincial chief and Senior Minister Sirajul Haq would disclose names of those MPAs on his return from abroad. Mr Sirajul Haq is on a visit to Iran.

He alleged that the federal government had spent millions of rupees to win over lawmakers and indulged in horse-trading.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F), a component party of the MMA, has already expelled its four MPAs from the party on the charge that they did not vote for MMA candidate in the Senate elections.

The MMA spokesman criticised the publicity campaign of the Pakistan Muslim League for its workers’ convention in Peshawar on April 20.

He alleged that the federal government had been spending huge amounts of money on the publicity campaign of the ruling party.

He said that General Pervez Musharraf should not attend the PML-sponsored public meeting to be held at Arbab Niaz cricket ground.

He said that the ruling party was violating the code of ethics by extensive wall-chalking and display of huge billboards across the city.
