PESHAWAR: The general body meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council here on Saturday elected senior lawyers Ahmad Farooq Khattak and Akbar Khan Kohistani as its vice-chairman and executive committee chairman, respectively.

According to a press release, the general body meeting was held under the chairmanship of the KP advocate general, Shah Faisal Uthmankhel, who is also its chairman.

Mr Uthmankhel congratulated both the office-bearers, who were elected unopposed.

Following their election, Mr Khattak and Mr Kohistani condemned attack on Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javed Mehsud near Baggan area in Kurram during which he received serious injuries along with six other persons.

They said that such an occurrence after signing of a peace deal there was aimed at sabotaging the agreement and peace in the area. They demanded of the federal and provincial governments to take action against the culprits involved in the attack.

They also thanked the members of the council for electing them unopposed. They said that they were elected through votes of lawyers and would raise voice for the rights of their community at every forum and strive for their protection and welfare.

They said that they would make all possible efforts for upholding supremacy of the Constitution and rule of law in Pakistan, independence of judiciary, transparency in judicial system and functioning of Judicial Commission of Pakistan, human rights and survival of real democracy in the country.
