MUZAFFARGARH: A woman from Layyah faced police refusal to initiate action against her husband, who allegedly burned her with hot water in Faisalabad.

Tahira Yasmin claimed she had approached the police in Kot Sultan in Layyah district, where she had sought refuge at her brother’s home for action against her husband, Shahid, but they declined to register her complaint, citing jurisdictional issues.

Tahira claimed in a social media post that her husband Shahid threw hot water on her in the Mansoorabad area of Faisalabad and burnt her. Despite reporting the incident to Faisalabad police through the helpline 15, Tahira alleged that her husband snatched her mobile phone and removed its SIM card to prevent her from seeking help.

Following the incident, Tahira travelled to her family home in Layyah and tried to register a case with Kot Sultan police. However, the police stated that legal action could only be initiated in Faisalabad.

However, when the woman raised her voice on social media, Layyah District Police Officer Muhammad Ali Waseem took notice of the situation and directed that all necessary assistance be provided to the victim.

In a separate incident in Kot Sultan, a woman named Ruqia was burned by a so-called “faith healer,” Ijaz, who claimed he was exorcising Jinns. The victim’s hands and feet were injured during the ritual.

After a strict directive from senior police officers in the district, the police arrested the suspect, who had been on the run.

A case (No. 873/24) has been registered against Ijaz, and the authorities have pledged strict legal action.

MURDER: In the Pati Sultan Mahmood Sharqi area of Sultan Colony, a man named Tariq shot his neighbour, Irfan, who attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute.

Tariq was reportedly beating his wife, Sameera, when Irfan stepped in to help after hearing her cries for help.

The Sananwan police registered a case against the suspect on a complaint by the victim’s father.
