LAHORE: An election tribunal comprising Justice Anwaar Hussain of the Lahore High Court has dismissed an election petition challenging the victory of PML-N MPA Mahmood Anwar from PP-182, Kasur.

PTI-backed independent candidate Aqeel Aslam filed the petition claiming that he won the election according to results compiled through Form 45. However, the petitioner alleged that manipulation in Form 47 changed the results causing him to lose.

He asked the tribunal to set aside the victory notification of the respondent and declare him a returned candidate instead.

However, the tribunal rejected the petition due to inconsistencies in the affidavit provided by the petitioner. It dismissed the plea against MPA Anwar, maintaining the notification of his victory.

According to the results announced by the ECP, MPA Anwar secured 32,326 votes and Aqeel stood runner-up with 31,407 votes.
