Human smuggler arrested

GUJRANWALA, April 15: A top-ten human smuggler was arrested by a raiding team of Gujranwala FIA in Lahore after a brief encounter on Saturday.

Reports said that accused Azmat Khokhar and Irshad were present in a house when the raiding team besieged it and asked them to surrender. But they opened fire on the FIA team instead. The law enforcers also returned the fire and after a brief shootout they arrested the former while the latter managed to escape.

The raiding party also recovered several passports, NICs and other documents from the arrested accused.

PROTEST: The district bar association observed a complete strike in protest against the Karachi carnage and boycotted court proceedings here on Saturday.

At a meeting presided over by bar president Ilyas Rehan, participants condemned the incident and criticised the government and police for their failure to provide security to the people.

They did not attend court proceedings while judges adjourned their cases. Lawyers demanded that the accused involved in the massacre should be arrested immediately.
