SARGODHA: In broad daylight on Monday, armed people in a car opened fire on the vehicle of their rivals on Malikwal Road in Miani and killed a police official’s guard, Sajid Nawaz, before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s car lost control during the attack and crashed into an electric pole.

According to sources, the attack was reportedly carried out in revenge for Sajid Nawaz’s alleged role as an informant in a police encounter in 2022 that led to the killing of Ulfat Abbas, son of suspect Khizar Hayat. The Miani police handed over the body to the deceased’s family following a postmortem.

A case was registered under sections 302, 34 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Faisal Aslam, Babar, Faisal Khizr, Khizar Hayat and unidentified accomplices on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Khalid Javed.

Sources say that Inspector Shahid Haral had also been targeted in an earlier attack by the same suspects, which left him severely injured.

Investigation teams are collecting evidence to apprehend the culprits.

INJURED: A worker sustained serious injuries when a wall suddenly collapsed on him during demolition work in the Yousaf Park area near Qurban Chowk.

The injured, identified as Qadeer, was trapped under the debris but was rescued and provided with immediate medical assistance. He was later shifted to the DHQ Teaching Hospital.

ACCIDENT: A speeding tractor-trolley collided with a motorcycle near Chak 106-NB on Sillanwali Road and left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Muhammad Bilal, of Muhajir Camp Factory Area, died on the spot, while Muhammad Usama from Chak 142-SB sustained critical injuries. Both were rushed to the DHQ Teaching Hospital.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
