ISLAMABAD: Over 50 million Pakistanis lack access to essential healthcare due to poverty and inadequate infrastructure, violating their fundamental right to health.

This was stated by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maroof International Hospital Haroon Naseer while speaking to participants of an event held in connection with International Human Rights Day.

Haroon Naseer said healthcare was a fundamental human right as it was integral to dignity and equality.

“As the world observes this day, we reflect on the millions still deprived of essential healthcare due to systemic barriers like poverty and inequality,” he said.

Mr. Naseer, who has been honoured with the Human Rights Award by Human Rights Council of Pakistan, said a shortage of nurses and over 80pc of Pakistanis lacking health insurance meant they were denied affordable care.

“We are committed to ensuring healthcare is a right for everyone, and we are focused on bridging these critical gaps,” he said, adding that, "as we celebrate this achievement on International Human Rights Day, we acknowledge that millions still face barriers to healthcare”.
