CHITRAL: A daylong training workshop was arranged for the policemen dealing with the victims of gender-based violence here the other day.

Police officers and officials manning the desks established for providing relief to the women affected by gender-based and domestic violence participated in the session organised by Legal Awareness Programme for Human Rights (LAPH).

LAPH programme manager Qazi Irfan told the participants that dealing with the victims of violence was a delicate job, which needed proper knowledge and expertise as well as resources. Lower Chitral District Police Officer Iftikhar Shah, who was the chief guest on the occasion, gave away certificate of participation to the police officials.

He said special initiatives had been taken by the police to mitigate all types of violence perpetrated against women. He said a women reporting desk had been established under the supervision of a women police officer.

He said that a decline had been registered in the suicide cases among women due to the effective measures the police had taken, including the launch of an awareness campaign against violence.
