TAXILA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qammar Zaman Kaira has said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) should engage in dialogue to resolve issues as it is the only solution to Pakistan’s current political challenges.

Addressing a ceremony held in connection with the PPP’s 57th Foundation Day at Shaker Dara in Attock on Monday, Mr Kaira said even global conflicts were resolved through negotiations.

The event was attended by PPP Divisional President Azhar Abbas, District President Ashar Hayat Khan and others.

Mr Kaira called upon PTI founder Imran Khan to abandon the politics of protests and sit-ins in favour of democratic values and dialogue. “Convincing the PPP leadership will be my responsibility while persuading other political parties should be taken up by our leadership,” Mr Kaira added.

He accused the PTI leadership of destabilising state institutions and attempting to manipulate electoral processes. He said, “In 2022, Imran Khan sought to appoint his preferred army chief and election commissioner, fearing his waning popularity. PTI’s recklessness could have pushed Pakistan into an authoritarian regime worse than any before.”

He also accused the PTI of fostering a culture of incivility among the youth and spreading discord. He asserted that Pakistan’s salvation lies in the collective effort of all political forces, adding, “No single party can resolve these challenges alone. The PPP believes in dialogue and it has always been the party’s stance even in the face of opposition.”

Mr Kaira spoke of challenges the party faced due to its steadfast adherence to its chosen path. “We have endured punishments with honour and take pride in the sacrifices of our workers during Shaheed Bhutto’s era. The legacy continues with Bilawal Bhutto, who leads a party that still stands tall against adversity.”

He said the PPP was the only political party that had always prioritised the country’s prosperity, progress and protected rights of the people.

He also revisited PPP’s electoral strength in Punjab, adding that the party had never relied on the establishment to win elections.

“PPP has been targeted by forces of provincialism, sectarianism and extremism, yet we have stood firm. Today, as the nation grapples with a resurgence of terrorism and internal divisions, a collective approach is vital to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty.”
