QUETTA: A police officer was injured in a bomb explosion near a police checkpoint in Qila Abdullah town on Saturday.

According to police officials, unidentified assailants planted an improvised explosive device (IED) behind the police check post in the Qila Abdullah Bazaar area. The device exploded, injuring a police constable and damaging part of the checkpoint.

Police rushed to the site soon after the blast and shifted the injured officer to the district hospital.

A senior police officer confirmed that an IED was used in the attack, which was detonated remotely.

The blast also caused damage to the Wapda grid station, leading to a power outage in the area.

Police have launched a search operation in the area to locate the elements involved in the blast.
