LAHORE, April 10: FIFA and AFC will provide US$700,00 for football-related facilities in the areas affected by the Oct 8 earthquake in Pakistan.
President Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), Faisal Saleh Hayat said on Monday during the briefing about the newly built FIFA House (Goal Project) on Monday.
"FIFA has provided US$500,000 while AFC US$200,000 to promote football in the earthquake affected areas in Pakistan", he said.
The president added that the amount could be increased to US$ one million.
He explained that four or five projects were likely to be completed in Muzaffarabad, Balakot and Mansehra and on the request of the PFF an academy at Abbotabad had also been included.
He specified that FIFA House was completed at a cost of US$810,000 in which the share of the International game's governing body was of US$460,000.
He stressed that Pakistan was likely to get second FIFA House in September this year.
He said prime minister of Pakistan provided Rs10 million for the House while PFF generated the remaining money through sponsors.
He claimed FIFA House in Lahore was one of the best among 170 built in the world by the International body.
He said some parts of the House would be used for commercial purpose to earn money to run it.
He said Pakistan was allotted the AFC Club championship to be held in 2007.
The president said the floodlights were being provided in the Punjab Stadium, Lahore and work would start soon as a tender had been given to a multi-national company.
The Punjab and the Federal governments provided Rs10 million each for the project.
He said the PFF's fixed deposit had been increased from Rs 3 million to Rs 5 million.
"The amount will not be used for any regular activities and the fixed deposit will further be increased to make the federation financially strong," he said.
The PFF, he said, had distributed Rs7.5 million among the players of all national teams as bonus and cash prizes.
Pakistan women team, he said, was invited by Jordan, Kuwait and some other Middle East countries.
To a question he denied that chief selector Younis Chengazi had tendered his resignation. When informed that the resignation letter was with the PFF secretariat for the last one month, Faisal responded that he was not aware of it.
However, he admitted, he read the news about Younis's resignation in some newspapers.
Younis resigned in protest as the PFF had been ignoring him in matters of selection.
Faisal said Pakistan had improved its ranking to by 22 ranks (177th to 155) and was also included in world five teams which gained fastest improvement in the ranking.
He said PFF had decided to give Rs100,000 to Pakistan captain and goalkeeper Jaffar Khan for his fine performance in the AFC Challenge Cup held in Bangladesh, this month.
