LAHORE, April 10: British High Commissioner in Pakistan Mark Lyall Grant held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League chief Chaudhry Shujaat Husain and Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi here on Monday.
Pakistan-Britain relations, development projects in Punjab and other issues of mutual interest were discussed in the meeting.
The PML chief told the British envoy that parliament was playing its role in strengthening democratic institutions in Pakistan.
Successful foreign policy of the government has provided solid foundation to strengthen Pakistan’s relations with other countries and trust of international institutions on Pakistan has enhanced, he said.
Chaudhry Shujaat said Pakistan and the UK have historic relations, adding that the cooperation between the two countries in trade and various other disciplines was boosting.
Pervaiz Elahi said British cooperation in education and health sectors was appreciable and highlighted role of some institutions working for social development.
He said health sector reforms programme has been launched to upgrade health centres in the province. Emergency services were also being upgraded at all hospitals, he added.
The standard of educational institutions has also improved due to reforms introduced by the government, he continued.—APP
