PESHAWAR, April 10: The special committee formed by the provincial government to review the gender reform action plan (Grap) afresh has not met since its formation. Some three months ago the provincial cabinet in its meeting had constituted the committee consisting of minister for population welfare and women development, finance secretary and social welfare and women development secretary and senior minister as the chairman of the five-member committee.

“The government is ready to look into the plan afresh but there were many other things which kept us busy,” said the minister. The committee was formed to look at Grap and suggest steps to implement it within the province’s financial resources, Mr Chishti said.

Lack of political will to approve and implement Grap could be one reason but financial constraints is the main reason for the lack of interest and reluctance on the part of the provincial government to review and implement the plan in the province, Mr Chishti observed.

The minister said that the provincial government wants to implement the plan but keeping in view its own financial resources, the plan should be implemented in stages.

Grap is a programme to increase the government departments’ capacity to improve the status of women in context of gender and governance.
